SEO for law firms: how do clients find a lawyer online?

Clients search for their problem, not for a firm's name — in Google and increasingly in AI assistants such as ChatGPT or Copilot. A firm is visible when its practice areas, cities and languages appear where that problem is answered: on its own site with specific practice pages, in verified profiles, and on pages that answer clients' questions directly.

How clients search for a lawyer

Few people search for “law firm London”. They search for their situation: “dismissed during probation”, “inheriting a debt”, “recovering a debt from a German customer”, and they ask AI assistants the same questions. Search engines and AI then show pages that answer the question clearly, and the lawyers with the relevant practice next to them.

The rule for a firm follows from that: be listed for the specific problems and practice areas you actually handle, in the languages you speak, and in the places where you take clients.

What actually raises visibility

Specific practice pages instead of a general list. “Employment law for employees in Manchester” helps a search engine and a client more than “full-service legal advice”.

Answers to clients' questions. A short answer at the top and the explanation below is the format Google and AI assistants quote.

Languages and jurisdictions. An international client searches in their own language; a profile that states your languages and countries is shown to them too.

Measurement. Without impressions and clicks you cannot tell what works. Use Google Search Console and your profile analytics.

What to avoid

Publicity must follow your bar's or regulator's rules: accurate, not misleading, no promised outcomes. Buying links or copying other sites' text does not pay either — search engines recognise both.

How LawBridge helps

LawBridge is a legal-tech search engine for legal services. Your profile and practice areas appear in 9 languages next to legal-situation, city and “lawyer abroad” pages that clients find in Google and AI search. A client who finds you contacts you directly.

For scale: in the 28 days to 26 October 2026 LawBridge pages had 4,865 impressions in Google Search Console, and in the week to 26 October 2026 Microsoft Copilot (Bing AI) cited them 38 times.

LawBridge is not a law firm and does not broker legal services. You agree terms and fees directly with the client. There is no fee for any inquiry; paid plans cover your profile, promotion and software.

FAQ

Is my own website enough?
It is the foundation, but on its own it is mostly found for your firm's name. For searches about a specific problem, pages that answer it and profiles where clients search do the work.
Do I pay LawBridge for inquiries?
No. You only pay for a profile and promotion plan. A client who finds you contacts you directly, and you decide about every engagement.
Does this work for clients from abroad?
Yes, if you state your languages and jurisdictions. Pages in the client's own language are the main way they find a lawyer in another country.
How do I know it works?
By impressions and clicks: Google Search Console for your site and the profile analytics on LawBridge.
