How much does it cost to recover a debt in the Czech Republic?

The court fee for a claim is 5% of the amount owed (a flat CZK 1,000 up to CZK 20,000), or 4% for an electronic payment order (CZK 400 up to CZK 10,000, CZK 800 up to CZK 20,000). The debtor also owes statutory late-payment interest: the Czech National Bank repo rate on the first day of the half-year in which the delay began, plus 8 percentage points. Between businesses you can also claim a lump sum of CZK 1,200. A claim usually becomes time-barred after 3 years.

How the calculator works

  • Late-payment interest: principal × rate × days late / 365. The rate is fixed for the whole delay and set by the half-year in which the delay began, the day after the due date.
  • The court fee is based on the principal. Interest is not part of the base unless you claim it separately. The base is rounded up to tens of crowns and the fee is shown in whole crowns as an estimate.
  • An electronic payment order can only be issued against a debtor staying in the Czech Republic. For a debtor in another EU country, use the European order for payment.
  • The limitation date is indicative: 3 years from the due date. A contract may set another period, and an acknowledgement of the debt extends it.
